MADISON, DIOCESE of. — City and diocese in the State of Wisconsin (United States of America).
It comprises the counties of Columbia, Dane, Grant, Green, Green Lake, Iowa, Jefferson, Lafayette, Marquette, Roch, and Sauk, all in the State of Wisconsin, with a total area of 8,070 square miles. Of a population of 442,182 inhabitants, 88,626 are Catholics.
It has 131 parishes, served by 140 diocesan priests and 33 religious priests; 3 seminaries and religious scholasticates; 6 men’s and 69 women’s religious communities; 1 college, 7 diocesan and parish high schools, and 54 parish schools; in 1949 there were 672 conversions.
