MAGALOTTI, UGOLINO, blessed. – Hermit of the Third Order of S. Francesco, born near Camerino at the beginning of the 14th century, died there on 11 December 1373.
Having been orphaned of his mother, he was piously educated by his father, and while still a young man found his delight in reading the sacred books. After his father also died, he enrolled in the Third Order of S. Francesco; he gave all that he possessed to the poor and withdrew to a hermit’s life, afflicting his body with severe penances. He lived for many years in contemplation, enjoying a reputation for great holiness. His cult was approved by Pius IX on 4 December 1855, and Leo XIII approved his Mass and Office on 9 December 1882.
