Having been left an orphan by his mother, he was piously raised by his father, and even as a young boy he found his delight in reading sacred books. After his father’s death as well, he joined the Third Order of St. Francis; he gave away all his possessions and adopted an eremitical life, afflicting his body with harsh penances. He spent many years in contemplation, renowned for his great holiness. His cult was approved by Pius IX on 4 December 1855, and Leo XIII approved the Mass and Office in his honor on 9 December 1882.
