MARIO D'AVENTICUM (DI LOSANNA)

MARIO D'AVENTICUM (of LOSANNA). — From 574 to 594, bishop of Avenches (western Switzerland), he transferred his episcopal see to Losanna (cf. L. Duchesne, Fastes episcopaux de l'ancienne Garle, III, Paris 1915, pp. 22, 219–20).

He wrote his Chronicle, as a continuation of that of Prosper, for the years 455–581, drawing on Italian consular fasti and Gallic annals. It is important for the information it provides concerning local history. It is preserved only in cod. Mus. Brit. 16974 (10th cent.).
