MARTINENGO, Domenico. — Missionary of St Vincent, b. at Savona on 17 Dec. 1816, d. there on 1 Oct. 1875. He entered the Congregation of the Mission at Savona on 9 Aug. 1835 and made his vows on 15 Aug. 1837. He completed his studies at Sarzana and at the Alberoni College in Piacenza. As a priest, he directed conferences and retreats for the clergy in the diocese of Casale Monferrato; later he taught literature at Sarzana and at Finale Marina.

Stricken by a serious illness, he devoted his final years to the publication of useful pamphlets (*La parrocchia*; *La verità vera*; *Agli operai, ammonimenti e ricordi*; *Il Concilio Vaticano*, etc.) for the spread of good reading among the people. To this end he also founded a society for the diffusion of good books. The noted work by M., *Pio VII in Savona, memorie storiche* (Turin 1888), left unfinished, was completed by his brother Francesco.
