MEDOLAGO ALBANI, STANISLAO. — A Bergamasque nobleman, b. in Bergamo in 1852, d. there on 3 July 1921. He was, together with Rezzara and Toniolo, among the most active promoters of the economic and social works of Italian Catholics.
At the dissolution of the Opera dei congressi e comitati cattolici in Italia (1904), he became president of the Unione economico-sociale, which had developed from the second section of the same Opera, which M. A. directed, and to which 2,432 cooperatives, mutual aid societies, rural banks, professional unions, etc., then adhered. Later he headed the Unione popolare with Toniolo and Paolo Pericoli. He took part, representing Italians, in the work of the Unione cattolica di studi sociali in Fribourg, which prepared the Rerum novarum.
