SACCHETTI, GIUSEPPE. – Journalist, born in Arlesega (Padua) on 21 May 1845, died in Florence on 20 October 1906.
He took an active part in the intransigent Catholic movement; a volunteer in the Papal militia (1869), an effective polemicist and convinced defender of the formula «neither elected nor electors», he subsequently directed several Venetian periodicals and newspapers (Letture cattoliche, Codino, Veneto cattolico, in the years 1870–90) adhering to this current; in Milan: La lega lombarda; in Rome: La voce della verità
(1889–93), and finally, for several years (1893–1906): L'unità cattolica of Florence, together with Enrico Mastracchi. He was highly esteemed by Leo XIII and by Pius X, who regarded him as a personal friend.
