MONACHE POVERE CLARISSE. — The Institute arose through the union of the independent Communities of Poor Clares existing in Newry, Cavan, Keady, and Ballyjamesduff in Ireland; it was recognized by the S. Congregation of Religious by decree of 24 January 1944. It follows the Rule of s. Chiara, approved in 1253 and reformed in 1858.
The purpose of the Institute is the education of young people, especially the poor.
The mother house is in Newry, diocese of Dromore, where the novitiate is also located. There are 150 professed sisters in all; 5 established houses and 4 vicarates.
