MORIGIA, PAOLO

MORIGIA, PAOLO. – Gesuato, born in Milan in 1525, died there in 1604. He was several times superior general of his Order and reformed its Statutes. He composed a great number of historical works, mostly on religious subjects. The lack of critical sense, which led him to accept legendary accounts and popular tales with naïve credulity, deprives his writings of all historical value; they nevertheless possess considerable interest for the information they provide about the life of his time. The following may be mentioned: Istoria dell'origine di tutte le religioni (Venice 1569); Istoria delle antichità di Milano (there 1592); Raccolta di tutte le opere di carità cristiana che si fanno in Milano (there 1599); Istoria dei personaggi illustri che furono religiosi gesuati (Bergamo 1599); Santuario della città e diocesi di Milano e il duomo descritto (Milan 1602).
