REMIGIO NANNI. — Dominican theologian, born in Florence in 1522, died there c. 1580. A religious in the Convent of S. Maria Novella, where he spent most of his life, he also spent many years in Venice (1556–78). In 1563 he was summoned to Rome by Pius V to work on the critical edition of the works of St. Thomas Aquinas (Roman edition of 1570).
Principal works: *De Summi Pontificis auctoritate, de Episcoporum residentia et beneficiorum pluralitate gravissimorum auctorum complurium opuscula ad apostolicae Sedis dignitatem majestatemque tuendam spectantia* (2 vols., Venice 1562), in which he published valuable little works by St. Thomas Aquinas, G. Torrecermata, Cajetan, Nacchianti, B. Carranza, Domingo Soto, Tommaso Campeggi, and A. Catarino; *In Sacros utriusque Testamenti libros annotationes non poenitendae* (ibid. 1566): an original commentary on Holy Scripture with the history of illustrious figures and descriptions of biblical flora and fauna; *Considerationi cento civili sopra l'historie di F. Guicciardini e d'altri historici* (ibid. 1682). He also published the *Historie universali de suoi tempi* of G. Villani (ibid. 1559).
