NANNI, REMIGIO. - Dominican theologian, b. in Firenze in 1522, d. there about 1580. A religious at the Convent of S. Maria Novella, where he spent much of his life, he also spent many years in Venezia (1556-78). In 1563 he was summoned to Roma by Pio V to work on the critical edition of the works of s. Tommaso (Roman edition of 1570).
Principal works: De Summi Pontificis auctoritate, de Episcoporum residentia et beneficiorum pluralitate gravissimorum auctorum complurium opuscula ad apostolicae Sedis dignitatem majestatemque tuendam spectantia (2 vols., Venezia 1562), in which he published valuable opuscula by s. Tommaso, G. Torrecremata, Gaetano, Nacchiante, B. Carranza, Domenico Soto, Tommaso Campeggi, and A. Catarino; In Sacros utriusque Testamentum libre annotationes non poenitendae (there 1566); this is an original commentary on Holy Scripture, with the history of illustrious figures and descriptions of biblical flora and fauna; Considerationi cento civili sopra l'histoire di F. Guicciardini e d'altri historici (there 1682). He also published the Historie universali de' suoi tempi by G. Villani (there 1559).
