EDMUNDITE FATHERS. - Religious congregation founded at Pontigny (France) in 1843 by the priest Giovanni Battista Muard for the preaching of missions to the people.

At first they were also called Pères de Pontigny, or Benedictine preachers, because they were Benedictine Oblates. They also devote themselves to the education of male youth in seminaries and colleges, and they have the direction of several associations in parishes. In 1900 they were expelled from France and moved to Hitchin in England. On 15 May 1911 they were approved by the Holy See. Having moved to the United States, they gave themselves to an intense apostolic life and have opened houses of missionary formation. The general house is located at Winooski, Vermont. At present the P. di S. E. number 102, with 10 houses.
