FATHERS OF SANT'EDMONDO. – Religious congregation founded at Pontigny (France) in 1843 by the priest Giovanni Battista Muard for preaching missions to the people.
At first they were also called Pères de Pontigny, or Benedictine preachers, because they were Benedictine Oblates. They also devote themselves to the education of young men in seminaries and colleges, and direct several associations in parishes. In 1900 they were expelled from France and transferred to Hitchin in England. On 15 May 1911 they were approved by the Holy See. Having moved to the United States, they dedicated themselves to an intense apostolic life and opened houses for missionary formation. The generalate is located at Winooski, Vermont. At present the P. di S. E. number 102, with 10 houses.
