PATROBAS. – Member of the community of Rome, whom Paul greets (Rom. 16:14) together with Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes... Herma (some manuscripts reverse the order: Herma... Hermes), perhaps all slaves or freedmen of the same master.
The name of P. (abbreviation of Patrobius) was also borne by a freedman of Nero, put to death by Galba (Tacitus, Hist., I, 49; II, 95), and is found in inscriptions (the form Πατρόβας, in CIG, 6864; Πατρόβιος, in Inscript. Graecae, XIV, 1741; Ti. Claudius Patrobius, in CIL, VI, 15189). P. is commemorated in the Roman Martyrology on 4 November (Martyr. Romanum, p. 496).
