PATROBAS. — A member of the Christian community at Rome, whom Paul greets (Rom. 16:14) together with Asynchritus, Phlegon, Hermes... Hermas (some manuscripts reverse the order: Hermas... Hermes), perhaps all of them slaves or freedmen belonging to the same master.
The name of P. (an abbreviation of *Patrobius*) was also borne by a freedman of Nero, put to death by Galba (Tacitus, Hist., I, 49; II, 95) and appears in inscriptions (the form *Παραβοβής* in CIG, 6864; *Παραβοβής* in *Inscript. Graecae*, XIV, 1741; *Ti. Claudius Patrobius* in CIL, VI, 15189). P. is commemorated in the *Roman Martyrology* on November 4 (Martyrologium Romanum, p. 496).
