PINAMONTI, GIOVANNI PIETRO. - Jesuit, preacher and writer of ascetical works, b. at Pistoia on 27 Dec. 1632, d. during a mission, at Orta (diocese of Novara), on 26 June 1703.

Having entered the Society of Jesus in 1647, he was for 26 years the companion of Fr. P. Segneri the Elder in the ministry of missions to the people; he also helped him in preparing and composing certain works (for example, the Confessore istruito) and composed others himself of an ascetical nature, much sought after, especially for their clear doctrine and the sweetness of their style as well as for their effectiveness. Principal ones: La vera sapienza (Venice 1683), Lo specchio che non inganna (Florence 1686), La religiosa in solitudine (Bologna 1695), La croce alleggerita (Modena 1699), Il S. Cuore di Maria Vergine (Florence 1699), Il direttore (posthumous, ibid. 1705).
