PLUTARCO and Companions, holy martyrs. — Commemorated together on 28 June, although they did not perish on the same day.
The entry in the Martyrologium Hieronymianum was certainly drawn from the Ecclesiastical History of Eusebius, where the martyrdom of certain disciples of Origen is reported, under Septimius Severus. Besides P., they are Serenus, Heraclides, Heron, another Serenus, Herais, Basilides, Potamiena (v.) and Marcella, almost all neophytes or catechumens, disciples of the young Origen (v.) in the school of Alexandria.
