POLEMIO, SILVIO. - Gallic writer. He lived in the 5th century and was a friend of St. Hilary and of Bishop Eucherius of Lyon. It seems that he held offices at court and that he later entered the ecclesiastical state.
He wrote several works, all lost, except the Laterculus, handed down by a single 12th-century manuscript preserved in the Royal Library of Brussels. The little work was composed in 448-49, as is clearly stated in two passages of it, and was dedicated to Eucherius like all the other writings of P. It is a calendar similar to the so-called Chronographer of 354, in which the months of the year are listed with various indications for individual days; between one month and another are interspersed notices on the Roman consuls and emperors, on the provinces of the Empire, the names of animals, the Easter computation, a list of Roman buildings, poetic fables and a brief chronicle of Roman history.
