POLEMIO SILVIO. - Gallic writer. He lived in the fifth century and was a friend of St. Ilario and of Bishop Eucherio of Lyon. He seems to have held offices at court and then to have entered the ecclesiastical state.
He wrote several works, all lost except for the Latercolo, transmitted by a single twelfth-century manuscript preserved in the Royal Library of Brussels. The little work was composed in 448–49, as is clearly stated in two passages of it, and was dedicated to Eucherio, like all P.’s other writings. It is a calendar similar to the so-called Chronograph of 354, in which the months of the year are given with various indications for individual days; between one month and another are inserted notices concerning the Roman consuls and emperors, the provinces of the Empire, the names of animals, the calculation of Easter, a list of Roman buildings, poetic fables, and a brief chronicle of Roman history.
