PORTOGRUARO, DIOCESI di. — Recent excavations have brought to light a new burial area with two enclosures, containing quadrangular chambers with three apses, with entrances framed by isolated columns in the manner of a prothyrum.
In the central chamber, a sarcophagus bears the inscription of a Faustiniana of senatorial rank who, while still alive, had her burial place prepared and whose inscription ends with the words: « Christi tabernaculo ac sanctorum memoriae commendavit ». To the south, a trichora (late 4th century) has been discovered; at the time of its abandonment (early 12th century), the nearby Romanesque baptistery took from it its ground plan and dimensions. In the cemetery basilica (5th century), which forms part of the complex, eight sarcophagi are aligned: « Habitanti in basilica »,
