PORTOGRUARO, DIOCESE OF. - Recent excavations have brought to light a new burial area with two enclosures, with quadrangular cells with three apses, with entrances framed by isolated columns in the manner of a small portico.

In the middle cell a sarcophagus bears the inscription of a Faustiniana of senatorial rank who, while alive, made her own burial, and it ends with the words: « Christi tabernaculo ac sanctorum memoriae commendavit ». To the south a trichora has been discovered (late 4th century), from which, at the time of its abandonment (early 12th century), the nearby Romanesque baptistery took its ground-plan configuration and dimensions. In the cemetery basilica (5th century), which is part of the complex, 8 sarcophagi are arranged in a row: « Habitanti in basilica », as the epitaph on the front of one of them says.
