RANZOLI, CESARE. - Philosopher, b. in Mantova on 13 April 1876, d. in Genova on 8 February 1926. He was professor of philosophy at the University of Messina from 1918 and at that of Genova from 1922.
Ardigo (v.), positivism (v.) he moved, through idealism (L'idealismo e la filosofia, Torino 1920), to a kind of realism, attempting to unify the opposing demands of idealist subjectivism and realist objectivism (Il realismo puro, posthumous work, Roma s. a. [1932]). He wrote extensively, especially articles, contributing to various journals (Riv. d'Italia, Riv. di filos., Scientia, Logos), and compiled an excellent Dizionario di scienze filosofiche (Milano 1905; 4th posthumous ed., edited by his widow, ibid. 1943).
