REINHARDT, HEINRICH. - Swiss historian, b. 11 Dec. 1855 at Olten, d. 6 Dec. 1906 at Fribourg in Switzerland.
Lecturer in history at the Higher School of Lucerne from 1878 to 1889, then professor of contemporary history at Fribourg, he was also, in 1890-91, rector of that university. He devoted himself especially to the history of Catholic Switzerland in the 16th and 17th centuries. He edited the correspondence of Alfonso and Girolamo Casati with Archduke Leopold V of Austria (*Die Korrespondenz von Alfonso und Girolamo Casati mit Erzherzog Leopold V. von Österreich 1620-23*, 1894) and, together with F. Steffens, began in 1906 the *Nuntiatuberichte aus der Schweiz*, with the dispatches of the nuncio G. F. Bonhomini for the years 1579-81. In addition to essays on the conditions of Switzerland at the outbreak of the Thirty Years' War (*Beiträge zur Geschichte der Bündner Wirren 1618-20*, 1881; *Der Veltliner Mord 1620*, 1885), he published studies on Switzerland during the time of Charles Borromeo (*Studien zur Geschichte der katholischen Schweiz im Zeitalter Carlo Borromeos*, 1901).
