RÉMUZAT, ANNE-MADELEINE, venerable. - Visitandine promoter of the devotion to the Sacred Heart, b. at Marseille in 1696, d. there on 15 Feb. 1730.
She entered the Visitation of Marseille, where it was revealed to her that she was to continue the work of s. Margherita Maria. Her reputation for holiness soon spread beyond the monastery as well. R. announced the plague that was to devastate Marseille unless the city reformed itself, and then the end of the scourge on condition that
the feast of the Sacred Heart be established for the day following the octave of Corpus Domini (1720). Several years before her death she received the stigmata. Her ashes were scattered during the Revolution, but her heart was saved and rests at the Visitation of Marseille.
R. wrote the statutes of the Archconfraternity of the Perpetual Adoration of the Sacred Heart. She maintained a very active correspondence with many persons, of which, however, only a few fragments of letters addressed to her director, Fr. Girard, remain. There are also fragments of her writings in the works of Fr. Jacques, particularly in her biography published by him in 1760.
