ROGACCI, BENEDETTO. – Jesuit man of letters and ascetical writer, born on 18 March 1646 in Ragusa (Dalmatia), died in Rome on 8 February 1719.
He entered the Order in 1661 and from 1677 to 1679 was secretary to the superior general Oliva. During that period he composed the short poem De terrae motu, quo Epidauros in Dalmatia anno 1667 prostrata est, dedicated to Cosimo II of Tuscany; from 1679 to 1692 he was a teacher of rhetoric at the novitiate of S. Andrea in Rome, and thereafter a preacher of the spiritual exercises. An eminent ascetical writer, he composed several short works that brought him fame: Euthimia o della tranquillità dell'anima (Rome 1690); he translated into Latin the Vita del ven. Francesco Suárez (1694); Dell'Uno necessario, cioè del vivere puramente per Dio (Rome 1697 and 1708); Il Cristiano raggiunto nei concetti e costumi (there 1711).
