RUSTICO ROMANO. — Deacon, nephew of Pope Vigilius, exiled by the Emperor after the Council of 553. An opponent of the condemnation of the Three Chapters. A Contra Acephalos disputatio (PL 67, 1147-1254) has been preserved from him, a polemical work against the Monophysites, whose ending may be missing. His polemic against the Council of 553, written together with the African abbot Felix, no longer exists. R. is important for his critical edition and Latin translation of the Acts of the Councils of Ephesus and Chalcedon.
