ROMAN RUSTIC. - Deacon, nephew of Pope Vigilius, exiled by the Emperor after the Council of 553. Opponent of the condemnation of the Three Chapters. A Contra Acephalos disputatio has been preserved from him (PL 67, 1147-1254), a polemical writing against the Monophysites, of which the end is perhaps missing. His polemic against the Council of 553, written together with the abbot Africanus Felix, no longer exists. R. is important for his recension and Latin translation of the Acts of the Councils of Ephesus and Chalcedon.
