SASSI, GIUSEPPE ANTONIO. — Born in Milan in 1672, died in May 1751. Having joined the Congregation of the Oblates, in 1703 he became one of the doctors of the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, became its prefect in 1711, and directed it until his death.
A highly learned philologist, he reorganized the manuscripts of the Biblioteca and collaborated on Muratori’s Rerum Italicarum Scriptores, of whom he was an intimate friend. Among other works, he wrote the De studii litterariis Mediolanensium... prodromus ad historiam typographicam Mediolanensem (Milan 1720), reproduced in vol. I of Argelati’s Bibliotheca scriptorum Mediolanensium (there 1745), and provided commentary on the chronicles of Landolfo il giovane and Galvano Fiamma, as well as on the new edition of Sigonio’s De regno Italiae.
