SATYRUS, Saint - Brother of St. Ambrose, born around 334. He was a lawyer and provincial prefect.
When Ambrose was elected bishop of Milan, he entrusted him with the administration of the family property. To collect money from a certain Prosper, he traveled to Africa, but on his return he suffered a shipwreck and barely managed to save himself. He then wished to receive Baptism, still being a catechumen.

but since the local bishop was a Luciferian, he refused him, awaiting better times and place. Having returned to Milan, he fell gravely ill and died shortly thereafter, probably in 377-78, and was buried near the tomb of the martyr Victor. St. Ambrose delivered two discourses in his honor, in which he extols his brother's virtues and touches upon the few known facts of his life. In the Roman Martyrology he is commemorated on Sept. 17.
