SATYRUS, Saint, - Brother of St. Ambrose, born around 334. He was a lawyer and provincial prefect.

When Ambrose was elected bishop of Milan, he entrusted him with the administration of the family property. In order to collect money from a certain Prosper, he went to Africa, but on his return he was shipwrecked and barely managed to save himself. He then wished to receive Baptism, being still a catechumen.

but since the local bishop was a Luciferian, he refused him, waiting for better times and place. Having returned to Milan, he fell gravely ill and died shortly afterward, probably in 377-78, and was buried near the tomb of the martyr Victor. St. Ambrose delivered two discourses in his honor, in which he extols his brother's virtues and mentions the few facts known about his life. In the Roman Martyrology he is commemorated on September 17.
