SAVIO, DOMENICO, blessed. - A young member of the Salesian Oratory of Turin, b. at Riva di Chieri on 2 Apr. 1842, d. at Mondonio di Asti on 9 March 1857.
Received in 1854 by d. Bosco into his oratory at Valdocco (Turin), he was able there to bring to full flowering the piety acquired in his family. There was nothing extraordinary in his conduct; rather, exact observance of discipline, constant application to study, kindness toward his companions, wise counsels to recall them to piety and seriousness, avoidance of every even slightest fault, and intense love of purity and of the Eucharist: thus he was one of the finest fruits fostered under the direction of d. Bosco. Sent to Mondonio to restore his health, he was soon transplanted to heaven. He was beatified in 1950, on 5 March, the day appointed for his feast.
