SAVIO, Dominic, Blessed. - A young member of the Turin Salesian Oratory, b. at Riva di Chieri on 2 April 1842, d. at Mandonio di Asti on 9 March 1857.
Received in 1854 by Don Bosco into his oratory at Valdocco (Turin), he was able to bring to full flower there the piety he had drawn from his family. There was nothing extraordinary in his conduct; but an exact observance of discipline, constant application to study, amiability with his companions, provident advice to recall them to piety and seriousness, avoidance of every fault, even the smallest, an intense love of purity and of the Eucharist; he was thus one of the fairest fruits grown under Don Bosco's direction. Having gone to Mondonio to restore his health, he was soon transplanted to heaven. He was beatified in 1950, on 5 March, the day fixed for his feast.
