SANZ, Pedro, Blessed. - Dominican, martyr, b. at Ascó (diocese of Tortosa) on 1 September 1680, d. at Foyán (China) on 26 May 1747.

Having entered the Order in 1697 and become a priest in 1704, he moved in 1713 to Mexico and from there to the Philippines, and reached China in 1715, working in the province of Fo-kien. In 1730 he was consecrated bishop. But two years later, once persecution had arisen, he was banished to Macao, from where 7 years later he returned to China and continued to work for his flock, but with caution so as not to be discovered and not to endanger his Christians. But since the vexations against them and the persecutions did not cease, he decided to hand himself over to his and their enemies. This happened on 30 June 1746. The following year he suffered death. In 1748 his four confreres were also killed: G. Rogo, G. Alcober, F. Diaz and F. Serrano; they were beatified together on 14 May 1893.
