SCHÖFFLER, AGOSTINO. – Born on 22 November 1822 at Mittelbronn (Lorraine), died on 1 May 1851 near Son-Tay.
In 1842 he entered the Major Seminary of Nancy, and on 9 October 1846 he transferred to the Seminary of the Foreign Missions of Paris. Ordained a priest on 29 May 1847, he departed on 16 September 1847 for the Missions of Western Tonkin, where persecution against Christians was raging. On 1 March 1851 he was captured and, after two months, beheaded. On 27 May 1900 he was beatified by Leo XIII, together with the 77 Annamite martyrs (v.).
