STEFANO GOBARDO. – A tritheist (Monophysite), in the sixth century he wrote a book in 52 chapters (with an appendix) on controversial theological problems, leaving the choice of the solution to the reader.
It was thus a kind of «disputatio in utramque partem» concerning patristic arguments. Our knowledge of this interesting work is based solely on the description found in Fazio, Bibl., cod. 232. According to a citation in the scholia on St Basil, the book was entitled: «Theognosta» (Theologumena; V. PASQUA, in Nachrichten Kgl. Gesellschaft der Wissenschaft. zu Göttingen, Phil.-hist. Kl., 1910, p. 200; cf. p. 215 sgg.). S. cites, among others, Severian of Gabala, Clement of Alexandria, and also Pseudo-Ignatius and Pseudo-Justin.
