STEPHEN GOBARD. - Tritheist (Monophysite), in the 6th century he wrote a book in 52 chapters (with an appendix) on controversial theological problems, leaving the choice of the solution free to the reader.

It was therefore a kind of "disputatio in utramque partem" regarding patristic topics. Our knowledge of this interesting work is based solely on the description found in Photius, Bibl., cod. 232. According to a citation in the scholia on St. Basil, the book was entitled: "Theognosta" (Theologumena; v. G. Pasquali, in Nachrichten Kgl. Gesellschaft der Wissenschaft. zu Göttingen, Phil.-hist. Kl., 1910, p. 200; cf. p. 215 ff.). S. cites among others Severian of Gabala, Clement of Alexandria and also Pseudo-Ignatius and Pseudo-Justin.
