PASQUALI, LUIGI. – Procurator General of the Order of the Mother of God. Born in Cori (Lazio) in 1846, died in Rome on 15 August 1905. For twenty years he preached in Italy and Dalmatia, devoting himself especially to the exercises at the Pia Casa di Ponterotto. In 1890 he concentrated his activity around the sanctuary of S. Maria in Campitelli, where he founded the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, training a notable group of young people there with new methods.
As a polemicist he wrote two works against Protestantism; a passionate devotee of the glories of Campitelli, he composed its Memoirs (Rome 1899; 2nd ed. edited by C. Carletti, 1912). He also prepared a comprehensive history, of which the Introduction (ibid. 1902) and The Origin of the Sanctuary (ibid. 1904) were published; the 16 manuscript sheets that remained were partly used by P. Fedele and A. Canezza.
