PASQUALI, LUIGI. — Procurator General of the Order of the Mother of God, born in Cori (Lazio) in 1846, died in Rome on 15 August 1905. For twenty years he preached in Italy and Dalmatia, devoting himself above all to the exercises at the Pia Casa di Ponterotto. In 1890 he concentrated his activity around the sanctuary of S. Maria in Campitelli, where he founded the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in which, using new methods, he formed a notable group of young people.
As a polemicist he wrote two works against Protestantism; a passionate cultivator of the glories of Campitelli, he wrote its Memorie (Rome 1899; 2nd ed. edited by C. Carletti, there 1923). He was also preparing an extensive history, of which the Introduzione (there 1902) and l'Origine del santuario (there 1904) were published: the 16 folders that remained were used, in part, by P. Fedele and A. Canezza.
