PASQUALI, LUIGI. - Procurator general of the Order of the Mother of God, b. at Cori (Lazio) in 1846, d. at Rome on 15 Aug. 1905. For twenty years he preached in Italy and Dalmatia, devoting himself especially to the exercises of the Pia Casa di Ponterotto. In 1890 he concentrated his activity around the sanctuary of S. Maria in Campitelli, where he founded the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in which, using new methods, he formed a remarkable group of young men.
As a polemicist he wrote two works against Protestantism; a passionate devotee of the glories of Campitelli, he wrote its Memorie (Rome 1899; 2nd ed. edited by C. Carletti, ibid. 1923). He was also preparing a vast history of it, of which the Introduzione (ibid. 1902) and the Origine del santuario (ibid. 1904) appeared: the 16 quires that remained were used, in part, by P. Fedele and by A. Canezza.
