PASQUALIGO, ZACCARIA. - A Theatine religious, canonist, and one of the classical authors in moral theology. Born in Verona in 1600, he taught philosophy in Padua, then scholastic theology for 15 years in Rome, where he died on 17 February 1664.
His principal work is entitled *De Sacrificio Novae Legis quaestiones theologico-iuridico-morales* (2 vols., Lyon 1662, with subsequent editions), in which the author exhausts the subject in 1347 questions. He also wrote: *De casibus moralibus iuxta principia theologica et sacras atque civiles leges* (Verona 1641). The work embraces 510 *decisiones* and includes a review and evaluation of the opinions of previous theologians and canonists; however, due to its laxist tendencies, it was placed on the Index by decree of 18 May 1683 “donec corrigatur.” The same fate befell his other work: *De statu supernaturali humanae naturae sacra moralis doctrina* (Venice 1650), by decree of 12 May 1655; after correction, the work was rehabilitated by decree of the Holy Office on 19 March 1656. Two other works of a casuistic nature are: *Variarum quaestionum moralium canonicum centuriae* (4 vols., ibid. 1647–52); *Singulares selectae quaestiones morales-iuridicae* (ibid. 1662: comprises 520 questions).
