THEODORE PRODROMOS. - Byzantine writer of the first half of the 12th century. Under his name circulates such an abundant and varied literature that many have thought it to be the work of several authors of the same name.

The poetry of T. P. is for the most part secular; but it also abounds in hymns for the liturgical feasts and in sacred epigrams. Alongside the poet there is also the grammarian, the philosopher and the theologian. In the field of the sacred sciences T. P. composed a treatise against the Latins, a commentary on St. Luke and the commentary on the sacred poems of Cosmas of Jerusalem and of St. John Damascene. Part of the works are reproduced in PG 133, 1003-1424.
