TICONIO. - Donatist writer, although excommunicated by his own party, d. ca. 400.
He had written: De bello intestino libri tres and Expositiones diversarum causarum (Gennadius, De viris illustribus, 18). These works, now lost, which did not maintain the strict Donatist line, were condemned in the "Epistola Parmeniani ad Tyconium" (around 378²). Two other writings have been preserved: A Liber regularum, that is, a compendium of biblical hermeneutics (ca. 380), and a commentary on the Apocalypse, whose original text it has been possible to reconstruct from later writers, especially Beatus of Liébana. His spiritualistic interpretation of the Apocalypse and his renunciation of chiliasm found great resonance in subsequent exegesis. T. had a great influence on St. Augustine, who called him (Contra epist. Parmen., 1, 1): «hominem quidem et acri ingenio praeditum et uberi eloquio, sed tamen donatistam».
