TICONIUS. - Donatist writer, though excommunicated by his own, d. ca. 400.

He had written: De bello intestino libri tres and Expositiones diversarum causarum (Gennadius, De viris illustribus, 18). These works, now lost, which did not maintain the rigid line of the Donatists, were condemned in the "Epistola Parmeniani ad Tyconium" (around 378²). Two other writings have been preserved: Un liber regularum, that is, a compendium of biblical hermeneutics (ca. 380), and a commentary on the Apocalypse, whose original text has been able to be reconstructed from later writers, especially from Beatus of Liébana. His spiritualistic interpretation of the Apocalypse and his renunciation of chiliasm found great resonance in later exegesis. T. had a great influence on St. Augustine, who called him (Contra epist. Parmen., 1, 1): "hominem quidem et acri ingenio praeditum et uberi eloquio, sed tamen donatistam".
