VALERIAN of CEMELE. — Bishop of Cimiez, near Nice. He took part in the Councils of Riez (439) and Vaison (452) and defended, against Pope Leo I, the primacy of Arles.
He published a collection of 20 homilies, which in form reveal the instruction of the rhetorical schools in Gaul and which in their theology of Grace show him to be a disciple of Faustus of Riez. He also wrote an Epistle to monks. He died around 460.
