Also known as: Valerian of Cimiez, Valerianus of Cimiez

VALERIAN OF CIMELA. - Bishop of Cimiez, near Nice. He took part in the Councils of Riez (439) and of Vaison (452) and defended, against Pope Leo I, the primacy of Arles.

He published a collection of 20 homilies, which in their form reveal the instruction of the rhetorical schools in Gaul and which in their theology of Grace show him to be a disciple of Faustus of Riez. He also wrote an Epistola ad monachos. Died around 460.
