VIBORADA, Saint. - Virgin and martyr, a recluse near St. Gall (Switzerland), killed by the Hungarians in 926.

After a devout pilgrimage to Rome with her brother Itto, a priest, she had herself instructed by him in the reading and singing of the psalms and then induced him to enter the monastery of St. Gall, while she shut herself in a cell near the church of St. George and then in another near the church of St. Magnus, where she was followed by her disciple the blessed Rachilde. She instructed in the faith the young St. Ulric and foretold his episcopate of Augsburg; she likewise foretold the killing of the perjurer Burcard, duke of the Swabians, the incursion of the Hungarians, her own martyrdom and the safety of her disciple, whom she healed several times from grave illnesses. Clement II canonized her on 5 January 1047 (v. CANONIZZAZIONE, vol. III, col. 578); her feast is celebrated on 2 May.
