ZEBEE

ZEBEE (Heb. Zebhaḥ, "Sacrifice"). - Chief of the Midianites, who, together with Oreb, Zeeb (v.) and Zalmunna, led the incursion into the territory of Israel. Gideon (v.) pursued him beyond the Jordan, along with Zalmunna.

Z. pitched camp at Qarqor (of uncertain identification). Gideon, having vainly sought help from the cities of Succoth and Penuel, suddenly attacked the enemy camp. The two chiefs managed to flee, but, pursued and captured, they were brought to Succoth, where they were killed personally by Gideon, who intended to avenge the slaughter of his brothers carried out by them on Mount Tabor (Judg. 8:4-21). The historical psalm 82:12 extols this victory over Z.
