ZEBEE (Hebrew: Zebhah = “sacrifice”). — Chief of the Midianites who, together with Oreb, Zeb (q.v.) and Salmana, led the raid into Israelite territory. Gideon (q.v.) pursued him beyond the Jordan as far as Salmana.
Z. pitched his camp at Qarqôr (of uncertain identification). Gideon vainly sought help from the cities of Succoth and Phanuel, then fell suddenly upon the enemy camp. The two chiefs escaped, but were pursued, captured, and brought to Succoth, where Gideon personally put them to death in vengeance for the slaughter of his brothers on Mount Tabor (Judg. 8:4–21). The historical psalm 82:12 extols this victory over Z.
