ZEBEE (Hebr. Zebhaḥ “sacrifice”). — Chief of the Midianites who, together with Oreb, Zeb (v.) and Salmana, led the incursion into the territory of Israel. Gedeone (v.) pursued him beyond the Jordan, together with Salmana.
Z. encamped at Qarqōr (of uncertain identification). Gedeone, having unsuccessfully sought help from the cities of Succoth and Phanuel, suddenly attacked the enemy camp. The two leaders managed to flee, but, pursued and captured, they were brought to Succoth, where they were personally killed by Gedeone, who intended to avenge the slaughter of his brothers, perpetrated by them on Mount Thabor (Iudc. 8, 4-21). The historical Psalm 82:12 celebrates this victory over Z.
