ADIMARI, UBALDO, BEATO

UBALDO ADIMARI, Blessed. — Born c. 1247 in Florence, he took part from his youth in the fierce party strife of the time. Of gigantic stature, bold and warlike, he led a life of violence and dissipation until his conversion by St. Philip Benizi, whom he had accompanied on the pacifying mission of Cardinal Latino Orsini, sent by Nicholas III (October 1279–January 1280). From Philip he received the Servite habit. Thenceforth he lived almost always at Monte Scenario, practicing severe penances, except for the years 1282–85, during which, already ordained a priest, he accompanied the same St. Philip, general of the Order, on his apostolic journeys, being present at his death in Todi. He died on 9 April 1315 at Monte Scenario, where he was buried. His cult from time immemorial was confirmed by Pius VII on 30 March 1821.
