Adimari, Ubaldo, Blessed

ADIMARI, UBALDO, blessed. — Born ca. 1247 in Florence, he took part from his youth onward in the partisan struggles that were so heated at that time. Of gigantic stature, bold and warlike, he led a life of violence and dissipation until he was converted by St. Filippo Benizi, whom he had accompanied on the peace-making mission of Cardinal Latino Orsini, sent by Niccolò III (Oct. 1279–Jan. 1280); from him he received the Servite habit. From then on he lived almost constantly at Monte Senario, amid austere penances, except during the years 1282–85, when, already ordained a priest, he accompanied on his apostolic journeys that same St. Filippo, general of the Order, whose death he witnessed at Todi. He died on 9 April 1315 at Monte Senario, where he was buried. His cult ab innemorabili was confirmed by Pius VII on 30 March 1821.
