AGUCCHI, GIOVANNI BATTISTA. - Apostolic nuncio. B. on 20 Nov. 1570 to a Bolognese family, d. in 1632 at Motta di Livenza. He was secretary to his uncle, Card. Filippo Sega, during the latter’s legation in France. He later accompanied Card. Aldobrandini on his embassy for the Treaty of Lyon and the marriage of Enrico IV (1600–1601), and subsequently served him at Ravenna and Rome until 1615. Private secretary to Pope Gregorio XV, he was appointed nuncio to Venice by Urbano VIII, where he remained for eight years, until his death. A historian, scholar, and mathematician, he wrote works in these fields, some of which are still unpublished.
