AHIAH (Vulgate Ahias; Hebrew 'Abijjah, as in Achiah, q.v.). - Prophet of Shiloh (hence called the Shilonite), the only one of the reign of Solomon and of the time of the schism of the tribes. He revealed to his fellow citizen Jeroboam (v.) by a symbolic action (tearing his new cloak into 12 parts and handing 10 of them to him) the will of the Lord to split the kingdom, giving him 10 tribes to govern, and to leave to the descendants of Solomon, because of their sins, one tribe (Judah with a good part of Benjamin; cf. 1 Kings 11:29-40). Now old and blind, to Jeroboam's wife, who had come from Tirzah to question him in Shiloh about their sick son Abijah (v.), he foretold the death of the latter and the destruction of their house because of the king's sins (1 Kings 14:1-18). In 2 Chron. 9:29 there is mention of the "prophecy" (the Vulgate has only "books") of A. the Shilonite as a written source concerning the reign of Solomon; but its content is unknown.
