ALAMANNI, COSIMO. — Renowned cultivator of Thomist philosophy, born in Milan in 1559 and died there on 24 May 1624. He entered the Society of Jesus at a young age (1575), and after the usual novitiate was sent to complete his studies in Rome, where his teachers were Suárez and Vázquez. Returning to Milan, he became professor of philosophy, then of theology, and finally of casuistry at the Brera College. In 1606 he went to the episcopal curia of Pavia, where he remained for 20 years as theological consultant to the bishop. During this time he devoted himself to compiling his *Summa philosophiae ex variis libris d. Thomae in ordinem cursus philosophici accommodata*, first published in Pavia between 1618 and 1629, and praised by Leo XIII. In 1623 he returned to Milan, where he continued to work assiduously, in addition to his ministerial duties, as prefect of studies at the Brera College.
