**ALBA, Juan de.** – A Spanish Carthusian exegete, born of a noble Madrid family in the first half of the 16th century. Having mastered Greek and Hebrew, after obtaining his doctorate he entered the Charterhouse of Val di Cristo (Valencia) and made his profession there on 2 July 1564. He died in the reputation of holiness on 27 December 1591.
The annals of the Charterhouse of Val di Cristo describe him as “the light and ornament of our house.” After his death, his works were published in Valencia by Felipe Mey: *Sacrarum Semisoen, Animadversionum, et Electorum ex utriusque Testamenti lectione Commentarii et Censura* (Valencia 1610; Venice 1631; Mainz 1675); *Selectae Adnotationes et Expositiones in varia utriusque Testamenti difficillima loca* (Valencia and Venice 1613); *Floridus manipulus divinae Scripturae, in quo permulta difficiliora loca ex amplissima Veteris ac Novi Testamenti serie deprompta, catholica exponuntur* (Valencia 1615). His *Centuria Sacra* remains unpublished (manuscript in the Charterhouse of Val di Cristo).
