ALBERT OF METZ. - Franciscan theologian of the early 14th century. Bachelor of theology in Paris (1302-1303), he was exiled from there for his refusal to join the action against Boniface VIII. Gundisalvo, minister general of the Order, recommended him, together with Duns Scotus, for a chair at the University of Paris (Ascoli Piceno, 18 Nov. 1304), probably without success. In 1307 it seems that he was custos of his Order at Trier.

The writings attributed to him are for the most part lost. Cod. lat. 8717 of Munich (ff. 1038-104) contains a Quaestio disputata de principio individuationis. B. Hauréau published in Notices et extraits... de la Bibl. Nat., IV, Paris 1892, pp. 20-28, some samples of sermons. Stephen Brulleier, at the end of the 15th century, cites a Commentary on the 4 books of the Sentences. A Commentary on Aristotle's Metaphysics is also attributed to him.
