ANNIBALI da LATERA, FLAMINIO. - Franciscan, writer, b. at Latera (Viterbo) on 23 Nov. 1733, d. at Viterbo on 27 Feb. 1813. Having entered the Order at Orte on 28 Jan. 1750, he devoted himself to studies, becoming general lector of philosophy (1758) and of theology (1764), which he taught at Viterbo and then at Rome. From 1791 to 1792 he was definitor general, and from 1794 to 1797 he governed the Roman province as provincial. Because of the Napoleonic suppression (1810), he withdrew to Viterbo, where he ended his days.
As a writer he was very active in the historical-ecclesiastical field, and dealt with the Via Crucis, the indulgence of the Porziuncola, the Third Order, and the stigmata of St. Francis. His most notable works were: Manuale dei Frati Minori (Rome, 1776); Ad Bullarium Franciscanum... Supplementum (Rome, 1780); Compendio della Storia degli Ordini religiari esistenti (4 vols., Rome, 1790–91; 3rd ed., Naples, 1796). He edited the Breviario O.F.M. (Rome, 1785), and the reprint of F. Horantius, Locorum catholicorum... libri VII (2 vols., Rome, 1795).
