DIEGO FRANCESCO DE ALTAMIRANO. — Jesuit, born in Madrid on 25 Oct. 1625, died in Lima on 22 Dec. 1715. Having set out for the missions of Paraguay, he taught theology in Córdoba del Tucumán, later becoming provincial of Paraguay and a member of the 13th General Congregation of the Order. Upon his return he was appointed visitor of New Granada and Peru. Several of his letters and reports on the missions and missionaries of those regions survive, including the very important Historia de la provincia Peruana de la Compañía de Jesús, published in part, together with another of his writings, by Manuel Vicente Ballivián in 1891.
