ALTAMIRANO, DIEGO FRANCESCO de. – Jesuit, born in Madrid on 25 October 1625, died in Lima on 22 December 1715. Having departed for the missions of Paraguay, he taught theology at Cordoba in Tucumán, subsequently became provincial of Paraguay, and was a member of the Order’s 13th General Congregation. On his return, he was appointed visitor of Nova Granata and Peru. Several letters and reports by him concerning the missions and missionaries of those regions are preserved, among them the very important Historia de la provincia Peruana de la Compañía de Jesús, published in part, together with another work of his, by Manuel Vincente Ballivian in 1891.
