ARAGONA, LUIGI d'. — Cardinal, born in Naples in 1474, died in Rome on 11 January 1519. Nephew of Ferdinando I d'Aragona and great-nephew of Alfonso I, king of Naples, having been widowed by Battistina Cibo, he renounced the marquisate of Gerace and entered the ecclesiastical state in 1494. In 1497 he was created cardinal deacon of S. Maria in Cosmedin, and in 1498 became administrator of the churches of Lecce, Aversa, and subsequently of many others. Under Leone X he was sent to the north in 1517–18 as papal legate. He is buried in S. Maria sopra Minerva.
