ARAGONA, LUIGI d'. - Cardinal, b. in Naples in 1474, d. in Rome on 11 Jan. 1519. Grandson of Ferdinand I of Aragon and great-grandson of Alfonso I, king of Naples, having been left a widower by Battistina Cibo, he renounced the marquisate of Gerace and embraced, in 1494, the ecclesiastical state. In 1497 he was created cardinal deacon of S. Maria in Cosmedin and in 1498 he became administrator of the churches of Lecce, of Aversa and subsequently of many others. Under Leo X he was sent in 1517-18 to the north as pontifical legate. He is buried in S. Maria sopra Minerva.
