ARAGONA, Luigi d'. — Cardinal, b. at Naples in 1474, d. at Rome on 11 Jan. 1519. Nephew of Ferdinand I of Aragon and great-nephew of Alfonso I, King of Naples, after being widowed by Battistina Cibo he renounced the marquisate of Gerace and entered the ecclesiastical state in 1494. In 1497 he was created Cardinal with the title of S. Maria in Cosmedin and in 1498 became administrator of the churches of Lecce, Aversa and later of many others. Under Leo X he was sent in 1517–18 to the north as papal legate. He is buried in S. Maria sopra Minerva.
