Also known as: Giovanni of Aragon; Italian: Cardinal Giovanni d'Aragona

ARAGONA, GIOVANNI d'. - Cardinal, b. in Naples around 1460, d. in Rome on 17 Oct. 1485. Son of Ferdinand, king of Naples, he became, in 1471, abbot of Cava and Montecassino and was then appointed apostolic protonotary. In 1477, he obtained the archbishopric of Taranto and exactly one month later was created, by Sixtus IV, cardinal of the title of St. Adrian, later changed to that of St. Sabina.

He was sent twice, as legate, to Matthias Corvinus, king of Hungary, and was subsequently appointed archbishop of Esztergom.
