ARAGONA, Giovanni d'. — Cardinal, b. in Naples c. 1460, d. in Rome 17 Oct 1485. Son of Ferdinand, king of Naples, he became in 1471 abbot of Cava and Montecassino and was later named apostolic protonotary. In 1477 he obtained the archbishopric of Taranto and exactly one month later was created by Sixtus IV cardinal with the title of S. Adriano, later changed to that of S. Sabina.
He was sent twice, in the capacity of legate, to Matthias Corvinus, king of Hungary, and was subsequently named archbishop of Strigonia.
