ARNOLDO, archbishop of COLONIA. — Of the family of the counts of Wied; died on 11 May 1156. He was first provost of the cathedral of Colonia, then chancellor of Emperor Corrado III. On 8 January 1152 he was consecrated in Rome, by Pope Eugenio III himself, as archbishop of Colonia. After Corrado III’s death, he attended, at Frankfurt, the election of Federico I and then crowned him king at Aquisgrana. He accompanied Barbarossa to Italy and, in 1155, attended the meeting he held with the Pontiff at Sutri.
