ARNOLDO, archbishop of COLOGNE. - Of the family of the counts of Wied; d. 11 May 1156. He was first provost of the cathedral of Cologne, then chancellor to Emperor Conrad III. On 8 January 1152 he was consecrated at Rome, by Pope Eugenius III himself, as archbishop of Cologne. After the death of Conrad III, he assisted at the election of Frederick I at Frankfurt and then crowned him king at Aix-la-Chapelle. He accompanied Barbarossa to Italy and was present in 1155 at the meeting which the latter had with the Pope at Sutri.
