ARNOLDO, ARCIVESCOVO DI COLONIA

ARNOLD, Archbishop of Cologne. - Of the family of the counts of Wied; d. 11 May 1156. He was first provost of the cathedral of Cologne, then chancellor of the Emperor Conrad III. On 8 Jan. 1152 he was consecrated in Rome as archbishop of Cologne, by Pope Eugene III himself. After the death of Conrad III, he attended, at Frankfurt, the election of Frederick I and then crowned him king at Aachen. He accompanied Barbarossa to Italy and attended, in 1155, the meeting that the latter had with the Pontiff at Sutri.
