ARCIMBOLDI, GIOVANNI. — Cardinal, born in Milan and died there on 2 October 1488. He held important offices and undertook numerous missions also on behalf of Duke Galeazzo Maria Sforza. Having entered the clergy, he first became a protonotary, then, in 1468, bishop of Novara and, in 1473, cardinal of the title of SS. Nereo e Achilleo, later changed to that of S. Prassede. He was sent as legate to Hungary, Germany, and Bohemia. In 1484 he was transferred to the archbishopric of Milan. He wrote statutes, homilies, and orations.
