Arcimboldi, Giovanni

ARCIMBOLDI, GIOVANNI. - Cardinal, born in Milan and died there on 2 October 1488. He held important offices and undertook numerous missions, including on behalf of Duke Galeazzo Maria Sforza. Having entered the clergy, he first became protonotary, then, in 1468, bishop of Novara and, in 1473, cardinal of the title of Sts. Nereus and Achilleus, later changed to that of St. Praxedes. He was sent as legate to Hungary, Germany and Bohemia. In 1484 he was transferred to the archbishopric of Milan. He wrote statutes, homilies and orations.
