GIOVANNI ARCIMBOLDI. — Cardinal, born in Milan and died there on 2 October 1488. He held important positions and carried out numerous missions, including some on behalf of Duke Galeazzo Maria Sforza. After entering the clergy, he first became protonotary, then in 1468 bishop of Novara, and in 1473 cardinal with the title of SS. Nereus and Achilleus, later changed to that of S. Prassede. He was sent as legate to Hungary, Germany, and Bohemia. In 1484 he was transferred to the archbishopric of Milan. He wrote statutes, homilies, and orations.
