ASSIUT, DIOCESE of. – In Egypt. Pope Pius XII, by the apostolic constitution Ex Petri cathedra, dated 10 August 1947, erected the diocese of A., assigning it part of the territory of the eparchy of Thebes, with the following boundaries: to the north, the eparchy of Hermopolis (28° latitude); to the east, the Red Sea; to the south, the eparchy of Thebes; to the west, the Libyan Desert.
