ASSIUT, DIOCESE OF. — In Egypt. Pope Pius XII, with the apostolic constitution *Ex Petri cathedra*, dated 10 August 1947, erected the diocese of A., assigning to it part of the territory of the Eparchy of Thebes, with the following boundaries: to the north, the Eparchy of Hermopolis (28° latitude); to the east, the Red Sea; to the south, the Eparchy of Thebes; to the west, the Libyan Desert.
