ATTILANO, SANTO

ATTILANUS, Saint. - Bishop of Zamora. When, at the end of the 9th century, Alfonso III, king of the Asturias (d. 910), reconquered from the Arabs the cities of León and Zamora, he installed as their first bishops the two friends and companions of ascetic life Froilán and A. The day of A.'s death is 5 October. We possess no authentic and historical Lives of him, and his alleged canonization by Urban II is today considered not to have taken place. His name is absent from the ancient martyrologies.
