ATTIMIS, TRISTANO de. - Jesuit missionary and martyr; b. on 28 July 1707 at Attimis, in Friuli, of a noble family; in 1725 he entered the Society of Jesus at Bologna; in 1743 he departed for the missions of China, arriving at Macao in 1744, and the following year he was assigned to the mission of Nanchino. His apostolate was brief and was carried out amid many difficulties, since persecution had broken out anew; in 1747 he was captured, and for nine months he suffered imprisonment, until on 14 Sept. 1748 he was strangled together with the superior of the mission, Fr. Antonio Giuseppe Henriquez, a Portuguese.
