PERMOSER, BALTIASAR. - German sculptor, b. at Kammer, near Otting im Chiemgau, in Aug. 1651, d. at Dresden on 20 Feb. 1732.
He was in Italy in 1675 where, in Florence, he was known as Baldassarre Fiammingo, Belmosel or Delmosel. Besides Florence he was probably also active in other Italian cities, to which he traveled even after becoming, in 1589, court sculptor to John George III of Saxony. In Florence he left some sculptures on the facade of S. Gaetano (ca. 1680), the Assumption of St. Andrew Corsini (1683) at the Carmine, a Crucifix in relief in S. Elisabetta delle Convertite.
In the many works ascribed to him preserved in Germany he emerges as an important artist, especially with regard to the development of the Italian Baroque in that country.
