BARBAZIANO, Saint. — His cult was noted in Ravenna and Emilia in the 9th century, when a Ravennate wrote a life of him that has no historical value (PL 145, 769–75). According to this source, B. was an Eastern priest who came from Antioch with another priest named Timoteo to Rome, where he lived for a time in hiding in the Catacomb of Callisto. The miracles he performed brought him to the attention of the Empress Galla Placidia, who took him with her to Ravenna. Historically, it is likely that B. was a priest of Ravenna, venerated after his death as a saint. Feast day: December 31.
