BARBAZIANO, saint. — His cult was centered in Ravenna and Emilia in the ninth century, when a native of Ravenna wrote a life of him that has no historical value (PL 145, 769–75). According to this source, B. was an Eastern priest who came from Antioch to Rome with another priest named Timothy, where he lived concealed for a certain time in the cemetery of Callistus. The healings he performed brought him to the attention of the empress Galla Placidia, who wanted him with her in Ravenna. Historically, it is probable that B. was a priest of Ravenna, venerated as a saint after his death. Feast day: 31 December.
